Part of the #tripledemic

I still don’t know if we had flu, RSV, COVID, or something else, but my family got hit by part of this #tripledemic in the American Mid-West and were collectively down for about two weeks leading up to Christmas. Thankfully we had nothing in our lungs and were never short of breath like when we had COVID-19, but it was about the worst congestion and headache ever we’ve ever had. I personally had lots of thick, brown and green mucus (which I’ve been told could have been a lingering sinus infection from my deviated septum).

After being bedridden for almost three days straight, my wife and I both woke up last Sunday morning and were able to look at each other and say, “I almost feel human again.” Then we started getting our lives cleaned up and tried to get ready to return to our jobs and reestablish ourselves as parents.

In the ‘pre-covid’ days, we took respiratory disease for granted and I think that’s finally changed. We know now that we don’t have to be susceptible to these germs. It’s pretty easy to look at the advancement in anti-viral/vaccine technology of the last few years and actually imagine a time when the medical system could quickly spin up PCR/protein testing, mRNA vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and all the other necessary cocktails to stem the waves of debilitating infections. I’m honestly really excited to see the future of this technology and I hope our society can open ourselves up to allowing experimentation in this field.

My return to personhood…
