Here’s an e-mail I wrote to the SamKnows\/FCC Reporting support team on my trouble with their router (it’s sometimes referred to as a “whitebox”):<\/i><\/p>\n

\nSamKnows Personnel;
\nSome background on my network configuration before my question:<\/p>\n

Before my SamKnows\/FCC Whitebox, my home network consisted of a modem serving IP public internet addresses to a router, which then served local IP addresses to my home PC. Diagram as follows (P = Public; L = Local):<\/p>\n

INTERNET –P> MODEM –P> ROUTER –L> Home PC \/ WiFi<\/p>\n

When I first attached the SamKnows router, I attached it (in bridged mode per the instructions on your website) between the modem and the router as follows:<\/p>\n

INTERNET –P> MODEM –P> SamKnows(Bridged) –> ROUTER –L> Home PC \/ WiFi<\/p>\n

Immediately, and even after a few days, I noticed a problem where my local network would intermittently become unable to communicate with the public internet for up to 60 seconds at a time.<\/p>\n

To remedy this issue, while also allowing the Whitebox to continue reporting, I returned my network to its original configuration and moved the Whitebox to a port NEXT TO my Home PC (on my local network):<\/p>\n

INTERNET –P> MODEM –P> ROUTER –L> Home PC \/ WiFi \/ SamKnows(Bridged)<\/p>\n

So my question is two fold. Under the current configuration, will the Whitebox still be able to collect and report all the information you need? And, is there a way to return the Whitebox between the modem and the original router without sacrificing connectivity and speed?<\/p>\n
