WTF is going on in Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan<\/a>? I understand we’ve had some folks move in from the city (where these things make more sense), and everyone thinks they know what’s best for their neighbors, but some of this anti-blight stuff that’s been proposed is nuts. If it passes, you won’t be able to fix your car while it’s sitting in the driveway; that’s blight (has to be in a fully enclosed space). That scrap metal you keep in a pile near the garage for the next time you’re welding and just need a 2×2 square plate (or even as a temporary home before you have enough to take to OmniSource); that’s blight too. Even that old 1970s truck you keep around to do some occasional trailer pulling, drive around the fields, and plowing your driveway in the winter (you know, the one that hasn’t been licensed for 10 years); that’s blight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

None of this stuff hurts anyone and it’s all practical for life out in the country. It’s Wheatland Township! We don’t have much, but we make due with what God gives us, and so long as we’re not hurting our neighbors we live and let live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re trying to solve the problems of old houses that are literally falling in on themselves, then keep it simple and find a way to deal with just that (although I think there are current health and safety codes that deal with these issues). Don’t let the state lawyers con you into becoming a pawn for the Federalists just because all the other townships are on board.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
