Layoffs and Respect

I’m working on a demo reel, so I can’t elaborate on this topic in as much detail as I’d like. The gist is that I find it entirely disgusting that workers are expected to provide at least two weeks notice before they leave a position, but when one is laid off it happens with less than an hour’s warning. Really, I would provide notice (maybe upwards of a month) to my employer because I respect them and would not want to be in the position of suddenly losing a worker. Can’t the employer have the same respect for they’re worker?
I imagine this is done to make sure employees are not able to leave with private information or vandalize in a fit of rage, but that implies employees would wish harm on their companies if the security of a job was taken away. Again, I repeat, RESPECT. I show some empathy and respect my employer, I’d really like it if they did the same for me.
