Here’s the way I see America right now: When the going gets tough, the tough ask for handouts. I realize that being out of a job sucks; and trying to support a family when you’ve run out of money and have no credit sucks; and being a huge company that’s about to bankrupt and send an entire state’s worth of people to the unemployment line sucks; but the solution can not be to subsidize the bottom of the pit and support the old ways that have (for whatever reason) failed us.
LET THE BOTTOM DROP OUT. Don’t give any more taxpayer money to banks, car companies, airlines, or the myriad of other private companies who are asking for government support.
Will it suck? Yes.
Will people die? More than likely.
Will we have an entire generation who’ve been babied (compared to prior generations) have to roll up their sleeves and start from nothing? Absolutely.
The best thing the government can do with the remaining real (not borrowed) money in the country’s coffers is to pull in the military and provide a non-offense defense, support and reinvigorate the education system, and/or provide investments that promote future self sufficiency.
We can not keep borrowing monies from our futures and our children’s futures. We have to work for ourselves, let our capitalist society crumble, and rebuild something as good or better from its ashes. That’s change I believe in.
