Its been a while since I last provided any substance in my journal. So during today’s lunch hour, I’ll give you the summary and update of my weekend.
Let me start by saying that I’ve been creating a list of things that need to be done around my Grandparent’s farm. Everything from re-fencing to cleaning and beyond. This weekend, my brother, grandparents and I got three list items complete. Matt and I spent the first part of the day with Jim eating breakfast at the Kountry Kettle. Over which, apparently, we’ve come to the decision to have a lan party at my place this weekend. Afterward, Matt and I got started raking up the crud that was left around the grapevines. Last week, grandma had trimmed back about 10 years worth of grapevine overgrowth. Then the four of us reinforced the fenceposts, retied the wire to the posts, then tied the remaining vines to the wires. All in all, the grapevines look bare, but much more decorative and way less bushy. Next up; the brush around the walnut trees. Grandparents had two big walnut trees removed and sold for timber. The tree folks had taken the main log, then moved most of the large branches to one pile, but left a large ammount of brush in the yard. So we hooked the large flatbed trailer to the tractor and spent a good portion of four hours loading little pieces of brush, then unloading onto the burn pile. Looks like in a week or two we’ll be having a large bonfire. And the third thing was getting the ashes cleaned out of the burn barrel. The waterhole in the lane is still not filled in. I’m wondering if we can’t just get Jim to drive his front-end loader down and move the rock pile into the waterhole for some foundation, then grab some fill dirt to dump over the top. I just want the mud filled in so we can pull the flatbed trailer back and load up some scrap metal.
