So my sweet, aging baby, the S-10 Pickup Truck, refused to start on saturday. Unfortunately, I’d made it to the wal-mart parking lot and just hoped that i’d be able to get it started again. I didn’t. So, stuck at Wal-Mart, I had no choice but to call the tow truck and have the truck towed to a service station. At least I’d called about pricing a few weeks ago, so I had an idea of who I wanted working on my baby.
Got a call from the Service Center today. They got it started, but found quite an air leak in the throttle body gasket. Air leaks in an engine that’s carborated (or Throttle Body Injected, like mine) changes the fuel:air ratio in the engine. One of the symptoms, beyond not being able to start, is a high idle speed. I had noticed the idle speed seemed high, but never thought about the vacuum, just thought it was getting old. Anyway, as they get to tearing apart the engine, they notice that the distributor cap and rotors are corroded, thus causing the problem in the water. So that’s been replaced as well. Along with an oil change and transmission filter/flush the total comes to a measly 358 bucks.
Sweet deal to get a working vehicle again. Now tomorrow… going to do the taxes!
