She now has 45 surrogate mothers on her books, mostly impoverished women from nearby villages. Twenty-seven of them are currently pregnant, and each will be paid between $5000 and $7000 — the equivalent to upwards of 10 years’ salary for rural Indians.
My fear is that rich foreign women are unwilling to go through the discomfort of child birthing, so instead, they’re paying Indian’s to do it for them (after reading the full article, I don’t think that’s really the case). It seems like the time that a baby spends inside the body of its mother would be very important to its spiritual development. Let’s not destroy our future generations if we don’t really have to.

EDIT: My fears are quelled: “I accept patients who have an established infertility problem,” she says. “I’ve had some women ask to do surrogacy because they don’t want to give up work for a pregnancy, but I turned them down flat.”
