Back on wednesday, pretty much on a whim, Jim and I decided to drive out to lake michigan. We’ve never been to the west coast of Michigan and decided it’d be fun to just head out there for the night. “I’m sure we can find a motor lodge or soemthing random to stay at.” Yeah, apparently this is a big tourist season in St. Joseph and South Haven. The only room we found was a 200+ dollar executive sweet at The Radison. Jim and I were both like “uh, we’ll just keep driving.” So we headed in an easterly direction, figuring if we couldn’t find anythign, at least we’d end up back home.
After checking the hotels at K-zoo and a little town called Ostego (spelling that town name is gonna be tough and not correct) we ended up on I-94 and made it to Battle Creek. The first place we found was a shitty, run down Econolodge. We ended up paying 60 bucks for a hotel room without HBO, shitty cable service, missing cover plates on the switches and ceiling lights, and hard water. I paid fucking 60 bucks to stay at The Hamilton Selects in Mackinac City!!! By that time it was one or two am and we couldn’t drive any further.
The drive was fun though, and we got to the lake shore just as the sun was setting. So all in all, it was still a damned good trip! In a few hours I’ll have a link to my facebook photo album with some pics of the trip.
