After sitting and thinking for the last half a month or so, i’ve decided to do an update, give a little information, and try to organize my thoughts on this. PLEASE, give me any feedback and criticisms you have.
At the very begining, Will is dreaming of the woman that he needs to meet later on. I had forgotten, though, about Will’s entire reason for traveling between worlds. On his home world, people were afraid of him and the power that he had obtained through his gemstone. They were chasing after him when he decided to run to another world. So since he’s running, he doesn’t really know what he’s doing in each world. He’s sort of aimless at this point. Eventually he will realize that he has changed (for the better) every world that he’s traveled to and will decide to go back to his home world and attempt to bring about a societal change.
[background on his first adventure] At first, he ends up in “The Void”, a sort of no-mans-land between the dimensions. The Void is his training grounds. This is where the reader first meets him. After informing the reader of his dillema, he tells the reader that he feels a pull. Someone is calling for him through the dimensions!
The second story is then Will traveling to find this person. As he travels he learns that every person has an identical counterpart in each dimension. Each counterpart has had different life experiences and has is living a totally different life. The person calling him, it turns out, is this girl Jasmine. She is a church goer and has been praying to find “answers” (I know this is vague, but i haven’t written this story yet). Her prayers are what has been calling William.
They eventually realize that they are counterparts (the same person, yes a person can be different sex in a different world. Really, men and women are only one chromasome different.) This adds an expected “weirdness” to their attraction at first. They come to realize two things: The line between friend and lover is only drawn by two people’s comfort level (not moral or societal norms); and if their going to be traveling, its a lot easier to appear as a couple rather than siblings (i’m making an assumtion here, this probably is only true in my head).
[back to the story]
I really want there to be this playful respect between Will and Jasmine. Will lost out on a his childhood and Jasmine is the type of person to pull the inner child our from inside of him. I think i did well with the playful respect thing. Jasmine is comforting Will as he regains conciousness (it really does take all of his energy to move two people between worlds). I think support is probably a sign of respect. “Wake up, sleepy head,” is one of those childish phrases that I think gives her a playful characteristic. Even though Will looks like crap, she’s lighthearted about it. Admiring the clouds and being in the moment is another good way of describing her personality.
I do a good job, too, of showing how practical William is. The very first thing he does is try to find a road and town.
At this point, Will’s orange gemstone is what amplifies his power. His home dimension taught him how to manipulate energy and manifest things. The gem simply lets him manifest bigger, more complex things. Here, he uses it to create clothes. (btw, i’m not sure how he’d know what clothes they should wear if he doesn’t have his vision).
The playfulness between the characters comes in again when Will intentionally creates a dress that enhances Jasmine’s bust. It really just shows that even though they are like siblings, the two are very comfortable being human. They dont ever have sex (at least i dont think they do), but they do make a lot of sexual jokes and are sometimes as playful as a romantic couple would be. Every human feels that need to flirt and be sexual, so i figure that on an endless trip two people would get comfortable being close on that level.
Please leave suggestions and comments. Any thoughts and feelings are appreciated.
